August Groceries, Week 1

We've decided to try bi-weekly grocery shopping instead of weekly. Today we went to five, yes five, different stores for food.

What we bought and what it cost:

Trader Joe's
32 OZ mechanically extracted NO hexane canola oil  $3.49
1 liter cold pressed sunflower oil $3.99
(2) jars organic spaghetti sauce  $4.58
baking powder $2.29
1# raw cashew pieces $4.99
Total: $19.34

Ranch Market:
(1) green cabbage, 3.54#  $1.75
(1) bunch celery  79¢
9.12# of seedless red grapes  $8.94
(1) bunch green onions  33¢
(8) large cucumbers $1.98
(1) bunch Italian Parsley  33¢
3.27# Italian Squash (aka zucchini) $2.26
10.15# Piloncillo sugar  $15.12
Total Spent:  $31.50

99¢ Store:
3# Piloncillo sugar $3.00
2.5# Golden Dewlicious Melon FREE (I had a coupon for a free item)
Total $3.00

Stater Bros.:

(3) 16 OZ jars of salsa  $5.97
Box of 48 decaffeinated tea bags  $2.49
Smuckers Natural Grape Spread  $3.29
(5) large cantaloupes  $4.95
2.45# cauliflower  $1.69
Total $20.89

Costco:

(2) huge seedless watermelons  $9.98
(10) large avocados  $11.98
2# package yellow cherry tomatoes  $5.29
15# bananas  $6.95
1.5# organic mixed greens  $4.59
16# frozen mixed berries  $46.36
5# frozen mango  $11.99
4# frozen organic strawberries  $8.29
(6) packages organic pasta $6.29
(3) gallons almond milk $15.58
Total: $127.50

(I've mentioned before that I usually make nut milks, and I do. However, while I can do that for all of my cooking and baking, but my boys just don't like it (any variety) enough to pour it over their granola.)

Grand Total: $202.23

I'm actually quite pleased; I am budgeting $800 for groceries this month and if we spend this much twice in the month that leaves plenty for my Amazon Subscribe and Save order as well as any bulk items needed from Azure. However, we didn't have to buy as much mango as we usually would as there were already five bags in the freezer. Then again, there are some things we shouldn't need to buy on our second trip of the month, like piloncillo sugar, grape spread, almond milk, pasta, and tea bags.
